Making Digital Stories

For this task, we were asked to create a digital story. We decided to make a PSA (Public Service Announcement) about online piracy as we believe that this issue is getting more and more important every day. PSAs are great for conveying messages, especially when combined with digital stories. It was a group task and we first wrote a script. After that, we created the video with graphics. We each recorded the voice parts and merged them in the end.
We were a group of four and it had its ups and downs. As everyone was busy with their finals we could not meet up and make the assignment. Therefore, we made our project fully online. As we were 4 people and everyone needed to be included in the video, our homework exceeded the time limit, it was supposed to be 1 minute but we ended up making a 2-minute-long video.
We used iMovie as a tool for the DS. It is a free tool and it’s pretty easy to use. As it was free, it didn’t have advanced features but it was enough for us to make our DS.
It was fun to act out for the task. Digital storytelling as an assignment was pretty productive, both for writing and speaking skills. I think students will enjoy creating basic graphic videos and scripts for them. It is also a great way to make students inform themselves and other students in the class.
