Using Wiki As a Teaching Method

This week, we were given a task about creating a wiki entry on the classroom wiki page. We were asked to write a movie review and share it with our classmates. I chose a thought-provoking movie to facilitate the writing task but soon realized that describing the movie in 200 words is hard :(

Using wikis in teaching is practical as students can get feedback from both the teacher and other students easily. However, I believe that using a site (in our case PBWorks) that is private for the class only is more beneficial as no one can anonymously edit the wiki page.

Although I think this is a good technique, there was one downside. The interface of the website was old and, it was not as practical compared to newer sites. And after saving my review the first time it didn't save anything.

Overall I liked using wikis in teaching as usually in classrooms teachers can't give feedback to every student and when students get low grades they are unable to learn what they did wrong. However, wikis help them get individual feedback on their assignments.
