Vox-Pop Podcasts As a Material for ELT

Hello, everyone! This week we've created a podcast with my friend, Educaption. We made a vox-pop which is a type of podcast that is composed of different people's answers to a question. We chose "What was the worst birthday present you have ever given?" as our question. We found 10 participants via social media rather than doing a street interview. And while gathering all answers, we realized that most of the bad presents were clothing items. So maybe if we want to avoid risks, we can skip buying a clothing item.

Fortunately, finding the topic question wasn't so challenging, as we managed to decide on it after a brief brainstorming. We had fun doing it but sometimes got sad when people said that they hadn't received many gifts in their life.

As this type of podcast can be used as a listening activity by teachers, I believe that it can also be given as an assignment to students. It would be a good speaking practice as they can build up the courage to speak English with foreigners. Another advantage could be students hearing themselves and realizing the grammar mistakes or the mispronunciations they make while speaking.

We enjoyed this activity so much that we started to think about continuing to make podcasts. If you'd like to read the post of my peer Burcu Keleş, click here.
